Diary of a Cyclists Wife... bike packing near El Rito

David and his friends from work (Whitney and Grant) decided that if backpacking was fun, then bike packing would be even better!  (Any activity requiring one to carry all of her own gear over miles, camp over night, and then carry it out is not something I am willing to do.)  Needless to say, I am grateful that David has friends who like to do the same hare-brained things he does.  It lets me off the hook a bit.

They wanted to do a trail in the Jemez mountains, but the area was closed due to nearby fires.  So, they found this odd little place near El Rito, NM with a big loop (how many miles?) through the mountains where they could cycle in and out and camp in the middle.  It was kind of cool how they figured out how to fit everything onto their bikes and in their backpacks. Sounds like they had a blast.  Here's the photo tour:

"best bear bag ever" (or so it was reported.)

nice skull, Grant.
